When it comes to looking your best and reducing the signs of aging, cosmetic dentistry should be a top consideration. Beauty is experiencing an aesthetic revolution with the dentist becoming the newest "beauty professional" and Dental Health and Wellness Boston is at the forefront of this revolution. This blog is your source for information and beauty tips for your health, your looks and your life.
Your teeth are crooked, or they’re chipped. They have stains that won’t brush out no matter how hard you try, or for some reason they’ve always been a little misshapen and you’ve always been embarrassed about it. So you look up your options for cosmetic dentistry and you hear about veneers, but the thought of them conjures up mental images of patchy teeth and alarming tooth shavings. Now you’re not sure you want these dental installations at all, but you’re still dissatisfied looking the mirror or at photographs of yourself.
Think again! New Beauty Magazine recommends the use of veneers, a great, effective and extremely convincing cosmetic dentistry procedure. Dental technology has come a long way since the invention of veneers – dentists are now on the seventh generation of porcelain laminates. With practice comes progress, and the new veneers are stronger, completely resistant to stains, metal-free and incredibly thin (about as thick as a fingernail!) . And the cutting-edge, most expensive veneers are so realistic, they allow light to shine through, which gives the laminate an incredibly realistic look that is also quite attractive.
Did you know? Many celebrities have already received veneers. That’s right, those dazzling, perfect smiles are not natural; more importantly, they can easily be recreated! And the great thing about veneers is they don’t wear down the way regular enamel in our teeth do. They’re also totally stain resistant, and create a dramatic improvement in how white and straight your teeth look. Just wait till you see the difference! Plus, you can get the entire procedure completed in only a few dental appointments. Dr. Jill Smith and her Dental Health and Wellness Boston team offer veneers installation in three visits of only an hour or two each!
Keep in mind: veneers are a permanent procedure, and not an inexpensive one. While they can give you a world-class smile, they must be applied properly and by careful professionals; otherwise, there can be real complications when the veneers don’t settle in correctly or irritate the gums. Let the skilled staff at Dental Health and Wellness Boston fit you for a stunning new smile – they have plenty of practice and years of experience with veneers. You’ll have nothing to fear with Dr. Jill’s team near!

It’s Summertime! The sun is boiling the sidewalk and sitting inside of your car is like submitting yourself to a sweltering torture test. You reach into your trunk, pull out your towel, and either slide on some noisy flip-flops or wince-hop from shady pavement to shady pavement, all the way to the pool. On arrival, you take a second to enjoy the rippling sight of it, grinning in excitement before jumping into the pool and savoring the cool burst of relief.
Summer is Swim Season, and people flock to beaches, lakes and pools in huge masses. But when it comes to pools and chlorine, your beautiful smile might not be as excited as the rest of you. That’s because, according to research by the New York University College of Dentistry, chlorinated water can erode or stain the enamel in your teeth. Scientists determined that excessively chlorinated water contains low pH levels, making the water more acidic. Exposing our teeth to the acidic water for too long can lead to the formation of hard brown or yellow deposits of tartar, all while potentially dissolving our teeth.
“How can you tell which water is likely to be ‘excessively chlorinated’?” you might ask. Well, public pools tend to be the biggest offenders. That’s because pools often sanitize using chlorine gas, rather than chlorine granules. Using gas leads to more hydrochloric acid in the water, subsequently lowering the pH levels and raising the acidity. If you ever take a dip and notice your eyes tearing up or your nose feeling a burning sensation after smelling the water, it’s probably considerably acidic. Even worse — poorly maintained pools can become breeding grounds for the coxsackie virus, especially in children. You’ll know you have it when you experience high fevers and sores on the roof of your mouth!
A report by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determined that 39% of a swimming team showed signs of dental enamel erosion, and 15% of studied frequent swimmers had similar symptoms, including gritty, transparent, yellow and/or painful teeth. So follow these 4 Swim Suggestions to ensure your pearly whites come out all right! Dr. Jill Smith at Dental Health and Wellness Boston wanted to share with her readers and her patients these valuable facts and tips to protect your teeth.
1) Keep Your Mouth Closed Underwater. This may sound like a no-brainer, but it happens more often than you might think.
2) Drink a Glass of Fresh Water After Exiting the Pool. This neutralizes all that CIH acid and rinses away the problem.
3) (If you own the pool in question) Buy Pool pH Test Strips. Keep the pH in the 7.2 — 7.8 range.
4) If you do notice stains, discoloration or pain, Visit Dental Health and Wellness Boston and Speak With a Dentist! Dr. Jill Smith and her talented staff offer a wide range of healthy dental products such as GC Mi Paste to re-mineralize and strengthen your teeth and are trained and experienced in dental cleanings and recoloring, and we provide a number of whitening services such as KOR “WOW White”deep bleaching and BriteSmile Whitening to help you achieve a beautiful smile.

At Dental Health and Wellness Boston, Dr. Jill Smith wants to bring out the best in you and your smile. For guys that may be even more important than you think. Recently, a national poll was conducted by the British Dental Health Foundation’s “National Smile Month” campaign. The results were clear: a healthy, vibrant smile was indicated by 56% of the respondents as an important physical feature in a potential mate. Of course, the real winner by a mile was “personality” (90%) as the key (non-physical) feature.
On our side of the pond, Allure Magazine conducted a beauty survey as well for its 20th anniversary issue. Similar results were noted, and a significant amount of women stated that a man’s smile and face are more important than any other physical features. So, fellas, don’t you think you should emphasize your best, most appealing assets? Sexy smiles are in!
We can help with that. Dr. Jill Smith and her team of dentists provide cosmetic dentistry for a scintillating smile. If it’s instant teeth whitening that you need, Britesmile™ is a clinically-proven whitening gel applied to the teeth for near-instantaneous results. We treat your teeth with a gel and a special blue light process. You relax for 20 minutes and wait for the procedure to finish. After three applications, you can go home flashing a sparkling grin!
If you’ve been thinking about cosmetic dentistry, we are one of the most highly respected practices in Boston. Dental contouring is a simple and fast solution for chipped teeth or uneven smiles. This procedure can be performed in just one session — in and out! After a free consultation, Dr. Smith will determine the proper procedure for the issue you want corrected.

Dental Health and Wellness Boston – Your Boston Dentist for Cosmetic Dentistry
Whether you’re going to a wedding, are in a wedding or are having your own wedding this summer – there are certain things that cannot be overlooked when getting ready for the event.
With all the effort you’re putting into planning your attire and worrying about who will be there, why ignore the fact that your smile is not as bright as it could be? If you’re the bride or groom, it’s a sure thing that a lot of people are going to be staring at you for the duration of the wedding. If you are a bridesmaid or groomsman, don’t be the one who fails the whiteness line-up with your counterparts. If you are simply attending the wedding, who’s going to notice you if everyone else’s smiles are so much more vibrant-looking?
Even if the wedding is coming up right around the corner! There is plenty of time to illuminate your smile. Over-the-counter whitening products take too long, and have lukewarm results. What you need is a professional, next-level whitening that gives you timely and drastic results.
At Dental Health and Wellness Boston, Dr. Jill Smith and her staff can give you a smile that will be the talk of the wedding. This is achieved using a process called KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching™. The first patient we tried this product on had such great results that the staff couldn’t help by say “WOW!” From that day forward, we have referred to the KöR whitening process as “WOW White”. Dr. Smith is one of the only Boston dentiststo offer this service, and one of the most experienced at it.
By restoring your teeth’s ability to absorb oxygen, the KöR whitening gel is absorbed deeply into the tooth, dissolving stain molecules. There are three levels of whitening with this system, Standard, Max and Max Ultra. The process for the standard treatment will begin with your first visit to our dental office, we will make molds of your teeth to create unique, comfortable, custom whitening trays.
On your second appointment, we will have a priming visit to make the teeth ready to whiten. You will receive your custom trays, KöR whitening gel and we will carefully explain how to use the trays at home for the following two weeks. KöR whitening trays are easy to wear and since you only need to have them in when you sleep, they won’t interfere with your busy day. Plus, the bleach is sealed inside the tray, preventing any gel from leaking into your mouth like other at-home systems.
Finally, a third visit to the office includes an hour and a half in-office procedure. To discuss the additional steps for the super whitening of Max and Max Ultra, contact Dental Health and Wellness Boston. Become a new patient now to get the ball rolling!
